Posted: 03_11_2006 Death of Milosevic To me there is only one suitable reaction to Milosevic's death: Rejoicing. I can understand the disappointment of those who wished to see him judged, but the verdict of the journalists, historians, and human rights workers who have already established without a doubt that he and other Serb nationalist leaders were criminals should be satisfaction enough. And dying far from home in a jail cell is certainly a just and suitable end for him. It remains to be seen how Serbs react when his body is returned to their country. Too many of those Serbs who have turned their back on Milosevic these past few years are themselves complicit in his crimes, and it may take their deaths too before a new generation can emerge untainted--just as was necessary in Germany after the demise of the Nazi regime.
